Where can I find my study ID?
To open a study on the Maze Participate mobile app, you'll need to first have downloaded the app from the App Store or Google Play Store.
Clicking the study link
Click the link supplied to open the Maze Participate app and take the study.
If the app has not been downloaded onto the mobile device already, you will be redirected to download the app first before beginning the study.
Scanning the study code
Open the app and press the Scan study code button at the bottom of the screen.
This will bring up your camera, if permissions have been granted, to scan the QR code for the specific study you'd like to participate in.

Why do I need to give permission?
The creator of the study may require screen, audio, or video recordings to understand your thought process and capture your authentic reactions as you complete the test.
If these settings are mandatory, you’ll need to grant the app the necessary permissions before proceeding with the test.
Preview of the permissions
The app may ask you for the following permissions:
- Audio
- Camera (front-facing camera only)
- Screen recording
- Screen broadcast
You only need to grant audio and camera permissions once but will be prompted to allow screen recording & broadcasting each time.
Privacy and security
Data usage
The Maze app requires an internet connection. If you’re concerned about data usage, connect to a Wi-Fi network. This is particularly important if you have a data plan with small limits.
Battery usage
Testing using the Maze app does not require excessive battery power. If testing for extending periods of time and recording excessive video, you may see significant battery usage but this is relative to the resources expended.
Memory usage
Screen and voice recordings are temporarily stored on your device before being uploaded. Ensure you have enough storage available for the duration of the test. Once uploaded, recordings are removed from your device.
