Maze MCP: Available tools
Last updated: October 8, 2026
The Maze MCP server lets AI assistants like Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Copilot read your research in your Maze workspace. This article lists every tool it exposes and what each one does.
With the Maze connector enabled, you ask your assistant in plain language and it picks the right tools for you. You never need to call a tool by name.
Discover: find studies, sessions, highlights, themes, projects and workspaces by topic, creator or date.
Analyze: read block stats, participant answers and verbatim transcripts from unmoderated, moderated and AI-moderated studies.
Give feedback: tell the Maze team what's working and what isn't, right from your assistant.
Before you start
Connect once with the server URL https://connect.maze.co/mcp and sign in with your Maze account (OAuth). Setup steps for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Codex and Microsoft Copilot are in Set up Maze MCP.
The MCP respects your existing Maze access. You only see teams, projects and studies you can already open in Maze, and every action runs with your own permissions.
To check it works, ask your assistant: "Which Maze teams am I in?"
Available tools
The Maze MCP exposes 9 tools, grouped below by what you're trying to do. They read data from your workspace and never change your studies.
Account and discovery
Tool | What it does |
| List the Maze teams you belong to, with your role (owner, admin, member) and each team's plan. |
| Find studies, interviews, sessions, highlights, themes, blocks, projects and workspaces by keyword, creator, project or date range. Accepts Maze URLs as filters. Searches names, descriptions, highlight quotes and theme labels, not raw transcripts. |
Unmoderated study results
Tool | What it does |
| Get a study's structure, per-block stats, Figma prototype reference and participant sessions with block-by-block answers and transcripts. Filter sessions by device, OS, language, completion, duration, date or specific block answers. |
Moderated interview results
Tool | What it does |
| Get a moderated (1:1 interview) study with its sessions, scheduling, recordings and verbatim, timestamped transcripts. |
| Get one moderated interview session by ID or URL, including its full transcript. |
AI-moderated interview results
Tool | What it does |
| Get an AI-moderated study's setup (goal, context, learning goals, questions, stimuli) and its sessions with verbatim transcripts. |
| Get one AI-moderated conversation by ID or URL, including state, language, duration and transcript. |
Help and feedback
Tool | What it does |
| Read Maze MCP reference docs (block types, study types, filter syntax). Used automatically by assistants that don't support MCP resources. |
| Send feedback about the Maze MCP: a bug, a missing feature or a clunky workflow. |
Reference resources
The server also publishes reference docs your assistant reads to use the tools correctly. You don't need to open them yourself.
Resource | What it covers |
| The three study types and which tool reads each one |
| Unmoderated block types and the answer fields they return |
| How to filter unmoderated sessions |
Example prompts
You want to... | Try asking |
Find past research | "I'm writing a PRD for [feature]. What research do we already have that's relevant?" |
Analyze one study | "Here's a study [paste URL]. Give me the top three takeaways, with quotes." |
Compare segments | "In this study, how did mobile participants answer differently from desktop?" |
Synthesize across studies | "Find all our studies about onboarding. Where do they agree and where do they diverge?" |
Analyze interviews | "What themes came up across the AI-moderated interviews in [study URL]?" |
Good to know
Read-only: The MCP can't create, edit or publish studies yet. Do that in Maze.
Search doesn't cover transcripts: Find the study first, then ask your assistant to read its sessions.
Transcripts can lag: A recording that's still processing returns session details without a transcript.
Troubleshooting
Can't see a team or study? The MCP only shows what your Maze account can access. Check your team membership in Maze.
Something not working as expected? Tell your assistant "send feedback to Maze about this" to file it with submit_mcp_feedback.
