When you add a URL to a website test block, Maze sends a request to retrieve metadata from the website, including a preview thumbnail.
If the request times out or the website doesn't respond, you'll see this warning:
The preview isn't available for this URL. You can still continue, but we recommend testing the link before publishing. Why this happens
Some websites block automated requests, which prevents Maze from retrieving the preview. Other reasons include:
- The URL contains a typo, or the page doesn't exist
- The page requires authentication or is behind a firewall
- The website is temporarily unavailable
What you can do
This warning won't stop you from building and publishing your study.
Participants access the website through a regular browser, not through Maze's automated request. This means the website may still load normally for them, even if Maze couldn't retrieve the preview.
Before publishing, make sure to preview your maze and confirm your website test block loads correctly for participants.
