Using Claude to build and host a prototype for a website test

Last updated: May 28, 2026

Claude's design tool lets you generate interactive, multi-page prototypes from a text description. Once you've built your prototype, you can host it with your favorite host provider and then run a website test in Maze — no design tool or coding experience required.

Maze lets you test your AI-generated sites with or without the snippet installed. If you want to iterate quickly, you can launch a test without it and still gain valuable insights through recordings. Installing the snippet only takes a few extra minutes and enables quantitative data collection for deeper insights — choose the option that best fits your workflow. See here how to test without snippet

Build a prototype with Claude

  1. Go to claude.ai/design

  2. Describe what you want to build in the prompt field. The more specific, the better — include layout, functionality, user flow, and target device (e.g., desktop, mobile).

  3. Claude generates a working interactive prototype directly from your prompt.

  4. Iterate by continuing the conversation: refine screens, adjust interactions, or change content until you're satisfied.

Prompting for URL path changes

When setting up paths on a website test block, the URL needs to change between screens to register a new step in the path. Otherwise, you might see a message that states no clicks were detected when setting up expected paths.

To solve for this, include the following example prompt template when building your prototype in Claude.

Multi-page sites

This should be a multi-page website where, when I click any links to navigate
to a new location, the browser should go to a new page and the URL should
change (not a single-page application). I am going to perform UX testing
in Maze with this prototype website, so in order to track participant activity,
I need the URL to be unique for each separate page. Please also use a shared
layout or template so all pages pull in the same head section.

Host your prototype with your host provider

Once you're satisfied with your prototype, you can export it or hand off to your host provider to host it at a live URL.

Install the Maze tracking code on your hosted prototype

To enable snippet-based usability testing, you'll need to add the Maze tracking code to your hosted site.

Once you have your snippet, paste it into the <head> section of your prototype's shared layout or template — since Claude generates prototypes with a shared head section (when prompted as above), you only need to add it in one place.

Add your hosted prototype to a Maze website test

  1. Copy the live URL of your hosted prototype from your host provider.

  2. Create a new maze and add a Website Test block.

  3. Click Add link under Task link, paste in your prototype URL, and click Add.

  4. Set up your expected paths and launch your test.
