Unmoderated study settings
Last updated: June 17, 2026
You have a few setting options available for customizing your study. You’ll find these options by clicking the gear icon in the top right corner of a study.
The available options will depend on whether the study is a draft, or has already been sent live.

Settings
Quick actions
Edit study: Before sending a study live, we recommend previewing and extensively testing it to ensure everything works as intended. But, in some cases, you might need to go back and make adjustments after a study has been published. For example, if you need to fix a typo, or change the setup of a block. Learn how to edit a live study
Stop collecting responses: After you send a study live, you can stop/restart collecting results at any time. When you stop recording, your study will become hidden from participants. This option is only available for live studies. Learn more about how to stop and resume testing on your study
Move: As needed, move your study to a different project
Delete: Deleting a study will permanently delete all data associated with it, including results data. It isn’t possible to recover a deleted study. Learn more about deleting studies
Export
Study transcripts: Each session transcript will download as a separate TXT file
All recordings: Download all available recordings from the study
CSV file: Paid plan users can download the data of your entire study. For detailed results data, download the CSV for each block. This option is only available for live studies. Learn more about exporting in Maze
Password protection
Set a password: If you’re on the Enterprise plan, you can set a password to control access to your study. Only people you share your password with will be able to test your study. Learn more about password protection
Transcripts
Select your desired transcript language. New sessions will be transcribed in this language.
Integrations
Connect to Slack: Get real-time updates for new test responses on a Slack channel. Learn more about the Slack integration
Destructive Actions
Reset study:
Go back to editing this study freely. This will permanently delete any responses collected so far.
Delete Study:
Permanently delete this study along with all results, inclusive of participant responses.
Prototype
Figma options (for studies linked to a Figma prototype)
Scaled prototype
By default, Figma prototypes are scaled for a full-screen experience on desktop and tablet. On mobile, full-screen is only available in the Maze Participate app — if a participant opens the study in a mobile browser, the prototype will display inside the test window instead.
You can adjust or disable scaling using the toggle. When enabled, the following options are available:
Option | What the participant sees |
100% | The prototype at its original design size. If it's larger than the screen, participants will need to scroll. |
Fit | The prototype scaled so the entire frame is visible with no scrolling. Nothing gets cut off. |
Fill | The prototype scaled to fill the full test window. If the aspect ratio doesn't match, the edges may be cropped. |
Width | The prototype scaled so its width fills the window. The height may extend beyond the visible area, requiring vertical scrolling. |
Which option should I use?
If your prototype isn't fully visible or participants need to scroll to reach interactive elements, choose Fit. Use 100% if pixel-perfect rendering matters and you know participants' screens are large enough.
Password-protected prototype:
If your Figma prototype is password protected, you can add the password in settings and participants will be asked to copy and paste the password in the mission instructions.
Prototype options (for studies with a mission block)
Delay success message:
You can add a period of time (ms) to delay the success message ("Mission completed") when participants complete the mission.
Unlink prototype:
If your study has a prototype associated with it, you can remove it so you can add a new one. You can only unlink prototypes from draft studies.
Study Requirements
Clips:
Screen Recording: View all interactions performed by participants
Camera: Watch participants experience your study and capture their emotions

Add think aloud education: Participants will get tips and reminders on how to effectively share their thoughts during tasks, helping you gather better insights
Clips required: Participants must grant the required Clips permissions before starting the test
Devices:
