Which AI models/providers does Maze use?
Maze doesn’t build or train its own AI models. Instead, we partner with leading AI providers to power our intelligent features.
The AI features at Maze fall under two categories, each powered by specialized third-party providers:
1) Features powered by Large Language Models (LLMs) for intelligent data processing and conversation, including AI-moderated studies, Open Question Follow-ups, AI Themes, and Suggested Highlights.
These features utilize OpenAI and Anthropic LLMs. To access Anthropic models, we use Bedrock. To test, deploy, and monitor the performance of the features, we use Freeplay.
2) Features powered by Rev AI's automatic speech recognition (ASR) for voice-to-text transcriptions. This is used when transcribing Clips in unmoderated studies, and interviews in AI-moderated and Interview studies.
Does Maze display a disclaimer identifying features using AI?
Maze features using AI are labeled with a badge () to signal when users are interacting with AI services.
How’s participant data used?
AI models used by Maze currently only use text and speech—no images, video, or other formats.
OpenAI and Rev AI models have been trained on data that’s been licensed, is publicly available, or provided by human trainers.
Our AI providers don’t use Maze customers’ data sent through the API (like your results, clips recordings, or other types of data) to train their models or improve their services.

Data retention
Data sent through both the OpenAI and Rev AI APIs is retained for a maximum of 30 days and then permanently deleted.
By default, Freeplay retains data for 90 days. However, this may be extended up to 12 months if the data has been flagged by Maze for quality inspections.

Can I disable AI features for my team?
The usage of AI features in Maze is optional.
If you are subscribed to the Organization plan and want to disable the AI features for your team, you have the option to turn them off.
Disabling these features means that your team will no longer be able to use the Maze AI features.
Within the Control Panel section of your Team Settings, you can granularly control which AI features your account has access to. You can opt out of all AI features in bulk using the top toggle, or grant/revoke access for individual features.
Access the Control Panel in Team Settings to disable AI features.
