Maze Clips are the easiest way to capture audio, video, and screen recordings of participants as they go through your maze, without having to schedule and run live moderated research sessions.
This article shows you how to enable Clips recordings on a maze test.
Who can use this feature
- Clips are available for users on a paid plan.
- Users on the Starter plan aren't able to make Clips settings mandatory for participants.
Enable user recordings on a maze
Enabling/disabling Clips will enable/disable recordings across the entire maze.
To enable Clips on a maze:
- Open your draft maze. The Clips settings are located at the top of the blocks list.
- Next to 'Clips', click Record.
Clips settings
In the Clips settings:
- Define how you want to record your participants by enabling/disabling Screen recording, Microphone, and/or Camera.
- Choose whether to add think-aloud education. If enabled, participants will see an additional screen with instructions on how to share their thoughts during the test. See how this looks like to participants
- If you're on the Organization or Team plan, you can also set recording as mandatory or optional. If enabled, participants can only start the test after granting the required permissions.
Encouraging participants to think out loud
In the Clips settings, there’s an option to enable additional think-out-loud education.
When this option is enabled, participants will see an additional screen with tips on how to voice their thoughts during the test. This can be helpful, especially when testing with participants who aren’t as familiar with unmoderated user research.
If this option is enabled, before starting the test, participants will see a screen with a short instruction video and a list of written tips.
Limitations
- Screen recording isn't supported on mobile devices. Learn more
- If your maze includes a live website test and has Clips with screen recording enabled, participants will be asked to share their entire screen, so that the recording can continue once they open the task on the website. Participants won't be able to continue if they only share the browser tab or window. Due to technical constraints, this check is only performed on Chrome and Safari. If testers use a different browser, such as Firefox, they won't be warned about sharing the entire screen, which may result in the website test not being visible.
- Transcripts of the recordings aren't currently supported. If you're on the Organization plan, there's a workaround using Maze Interview Studies.
