Which AI models/providers does Maze use?
Maze doesn’t build or train its own AI models.
The AI features at Maze fall under two separate categories, powered by the respective third-party providers:
1) Features that use OpenAI’s GPT large language model (LLM) for intelligent data processing, plus Freeplay to test, deploy, and monitor the performance of those features
This includes features such as Open Questions with follow-ups, Themes, and AI suggestions.
2) Features powered by Rev AI's automatic speech recognition (ASR) for voice-to-text transcriptions
This includes Interview Studies.
Does Maze display a disclaimer identifying features using AI?
Maze features using AI are labeled with a badge () to signal when users are interacting with AI services.
How’s participant data used?
AI models used by Maze currently only use text and speech—no images, video, or other formats.
OpenAI and Rev AI models have been trained on data that’s been licensed, is publicly available, or provided by human trainers.
Our AI providers don’t use Maze customers’ data sent through the API (like your results, clips recordings, or other types of data) to train their models or improve their services.

Data retention
Data sent through both the OpenAI and Rev AI APIs is retained for a maximum of 30 days and then permanently deleted.
By default, Freeplay retains data for 90 days. However, this may be extended up to 12 months if the data has been flagged by Maze for quality inspections.
